Pro: English is the language of business
Already wide exposure to english so learning it would be easier
It would promote outsourcing of US jobs to India, thus aiding their economy

Cons: -Diversity would suffer
-English is a complicated language and some sources (cant remember them now) say its harder to learn than many languages like Spanish
-Outsourcing could hurt individual employment within the US

Just some stuff I thought of. Hope it helps

Just becos India is a multilingual nation, a language is wanted with which u can journey for the duration of the nation and have an understanding of others. This is what English does in India!. It is not just an worldwide language, however could also be slowly and often changing French as essentially the most standard and desired language of the Euro international locations.

The fundamental point you need to make is how beneficial an official national language is and how difficult things can be without one. You can then argue that English would be an excellent choice for India because it is currently the most ubiquitous.

My neighbor (a very well educated man from India) and I were discussing the benefits of making English the official national language of the US (we live in the South where there are an increasing number of Hispanics who have chosen not to learn English). His comment was that if you want to understand why a country needs a national language look at India.

I think if India and all the other non-English speaking cultures were to adopt English as their language, we would lose diversity in the world.
