I took 3 hpt on my 5th late day, they all said neg. I have been extremely tired, moody (more so than I get with my period) strange sudden pains in my stomach that just come and go. I'm normally like clockwork so I'm a little concerned. I'm not really stressed out and I'm not very active and my eating habits haven't really changed so I can't figure out what's going on. Should I go to the doctor? My husband and I have been trying, but I figured it should show up on the test by now. If I go to the doctor what do I tell them when I make the appointment? I haveo find a new doc cause mine retired. I'm sure these are all silly sounding questions, but this is all new to me. I'm 21....please help!

it all depends on how long your cycle are and when you ovulated if you ovulated late than implantation took place late which would explain the negative results with two of my pregnancy the home pregnancy test showed negative what you can do is go to your local laboratory and have a blood test done you don't need a doctor to order this test just go and tell them you want a them to check and see if your pregnant with blood serum test it cost around $25.00 and you get the results in about 15 minutes here is where some of the doctors laboratory are located they are very good if none of these are close by you call one of them they should be able to hook you up with one that's close to you

Period's late, but negative home pregnancy test: Could I be pregnant?
Your period is late, you're having pregnancy symptoms, but you are still getting a negative pregnancy test. Could you still be pregnant? If you're not pregnant, why is your period late and what should you do about it?
Could I be pregnant?
Absolutely! It is not uncommon for a woman to get a negative test result, when she is indeed pregnant, even when testing after her period is due.
The biggest reason for getting a negative test result is miscalculating your period. The average menstrual cycle is 28 days. If you are fortunate enough to have a regular 28 day cycle, you would count 28 days from the start of your last menstrual cycle to determine when your next period is due. The problem with this method is two-fold. One, many women do not have a 28 day cycle and two, this does not account for variations in ovulation dates and more importantly the date of implantation.
Some basic physiology
Your menstrual cycle is divided into two phases. The first half is called the follicular phase and lasts from the start of menstruation until ovulation. The second half is called the luteal phase and starts at ovulation extending outward until pregnancy or until menstruation begins again. During the follicular phase of your cycle you will produce hormones, specifically LH (luteinizing hormone) and FSH (follicle stimulating hormone). After ovulation occurs it triggers a rise in a second set of hormones, progesterone and estrogen. The length of the follicular phase can vary greatly. The luteal phase, from ovulation onward, is typically 13 to 14 days. So let's say a woman's typical cycle is the standard 28 days, but for this cycle our hypothetical woman's follicular phase is 16 days instead of her typical 14 days. This would mean if she tested the day her period was "due", she would actually be testing at 12 days past ovulation verses what she is assuming to be 14 days. The two day difference could be the difference between a negative and a positive pregnancy test.
Implantation and pregnancy tests
Another factor to consider is when implantation occurs. You will not get a positive pregnancy test until after implantation occurs. Although hcg is produced almost from conception, it is not until the egg implants that the hcg can be released into the woman's blood stream in sufficient quantities to result in a positive pregnancy test. The time implantation occurs varies. Implantation can occur anywhere from 6-12 days past ovulation.
Other causes for a pregnancy test to not detect pregnancy
Other causes for a negative test include diluted urine, expired test, improper testing, and ectopic pregnancy. If you have received a negative test result a day or two after your period is due, it may be as simple as testing too early. Retest again in a week, and if still negative consult your doctor.

preg. tests can be wrong but usually not when they say negative. sometimes they give a false positive. your only 5 days late and if your worried that maybe your pregnant and your thinking about it, its probably gonna come, just relax. stress and nerves and your mind can affect the period. if you really want to make sure, just call the doc. or just go to one and tell them you think your pregnant and they will do a test there and you can even wait for the results. if you need a doctor, look in the phonebook for an ob doc or get a recommendation from a friend or relative that has a nice ob doctors office. my office here in michigan is a group practice of about 7 or 8 docs and i love it, because chances are if you go into labor and you only have one doc, that he/she could maybe not end up delivering. but if you have more than one, then your pretty much guaranteed to know the doc delivering, which i like. my guess is your not pregnant, but just call the doctor. with my second child i just stopped into the office and told them i thought i was, they did a test and confirmed it, simple as that. dont worry, good luck.

Sometime home pregnancy can be wrong expecially if the test is negative you are more likely to get a false negative than a false positive get a blood test from yur doctor also when you are ttc you can imagine symptoms and make your period late through wanting to be pregnant (its stress in its own way). Take a blood test and tell the doctor your situation he shoudl offer a blood test and then you will know for def.

They sure can be wrong. Those tests measure the hormone HCG in your body. When you become pregnant your body automatically starts producing this hormone and it doubles each day. You may be pregnant and your body might not have produced enough of the hormone to be detected on the test.

Either wait about another week and test again, or you can go to the doc for a blood test to be sure. The OTC test are almost 100% accurate though...so if you test negative in about a week its a good chance you are not pregnant.

Good luck.

If you took 3 tests & all were negative, you are not pregnant. It's soo unlikely for 3 tests to be false. I took 2 test w/ both of my pregancies after my period was a week late & all 4 tests were positive - all were correct. You can go to a doc to ease your mind. There are many reasons why women miss a period, & many do. I think that since you want to be pregnant & think that you are, that your mind is creating all of these symptoms that you are looking too deeply into.

false negatives are much more common than a false positives. Your body may not produce enough of the HGC hormone yet (i think thats the right letters). Call a DR and ask for a blood test. Tell them you are late, but your home test is negative. That will tell you for sure. They can usually do the test in the office.

Congrats if you are pregnant!

It is possible it is wrong. You could possibly have had a miscarriage early on. The only way to know would be to go to the doctor and have them do a quantitative pregnancy test (blood test) that would be able to tell the actual amount of HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin), the pregnancy hormone. If you are above the threshold, they would have you come back in in a day or two to compare the numbers to see if they are going down.

I wish you well!

It's possible that the hpt's are wrong...especially this early in the (possible) pregnancy. Use your first morning's urine - the concentration of hormones should be higher. If you still get a neg, and your period doesn't start within the next week, give the doc a call.

Good luck!
