If it's a pirate with a wooden leg, try Woody for a guy, or Peg for a lady pirate (contemporary liberated pirate). How about Patches or Cyclops? Evil the Plankster?

why not pick one of his distinguishing characteristics and go from there? Does he have a horrible scar? does he have a filthy habit? something he does whenever he murders someone? A great name is only great if it totally fits the character. How is he known throughout the seas and how does he inflict fear? For example a pirate with a special weapon that is known throughout the world could be Captian Robert the Blade. (lol it isnt the most creative example I know but theres a start.)

Peg-leg, Barnacle breath, Capt. Bart, Scalywag, Pistol Pete, Slimy Sam, Rot-gut Ralph, Walk-the-plank-willy!
Seriously look in the old dragon stories from way back when and you can create a good pirate name!
