It is annoying the c***out of me that when I am driving my husband start to give instruction and direction even though you KNOW how to drive and KNOW where you heading? I ask so many people around me and 99% said their husband or boyfriend or partner does the same...why???

Control. It's not just men. I was like this until I learned to relax. He always takes the "long" route and this used to drive me nuts. Now I just shut up and let him go along his merry way. Its not worth arguing about. Why should I get all bent out of shape because my route saves 5 min? He does a few things while driving that makes me nervous (quick, hard stops, being too close to a car in front) but I know he's an excellent driver. I actually learned from HIM how to just relax and let someone else do the driving. Now I just distract myself with sightseeing and enjoy the ride. I know we'll arrive to our destination safe. Have your husband bring a book when you're driving, maybe he'll learn to be quiet and let you drive!

It is just instinct for me now. My previous two girlfriends were horrible drivers. After living in the same house for 5 months, she proceeded to drive the wrong way down a one way street... the same one that we avoid every day. The other one... she would ask for directions, and would get mad if I said "Left" or "Right" because she had a tough time with those... rather wanted yourside or myside. Soo... I guess from my point of view I feel like I have to make sure they always know what they are doing.

Many years ago my husband was the same way. One day I pulled over and refused to go any farther until he agreed that who ever was behind the wheel had ALL control and the passenger could not put their two cents in. He agreed and it only took a few times of saying whos behind the wheel? when he started to tell me what to do. Now 36 years later he never says a word.... Life is good.......:)

I guess they just want you to feel that sense of security when your with them that even though they're not driving they are still with you and in control of the situation and they want you to feel like they know where they are going and the better way than yours to get there because he's the what, "MAN."

You shouldn't generalize.
Turn left here.
Not all men are like that.
slow down you'll miss the turn.
Some guys won't let the woman drive at all.
Right at the next light.
So maybe you should consider that its your guy and not all of them.
Third building on the right, park in front.

men have control issues and if they aren't driving telling you where to go is the only way they can feel on top of things. My ex never wanted me to drive because he didn't like not being in control of the vehicle

When my husband starts that, I just ask if he would like to drive. Usually he shuts up then. I don't know why they do it either. Maybe he thinks his way is better. I don't know, but it is annoying.

They think they are better drivers. However their driving can be scary too.
Just tell him to be quiet and let you drive without all the distraction.
