An electric oven would be rather high on the list. For handheld items your 1500w hurricane blow dryer with mega blast rates the highest on a moment by moment basis. Although an electric space heater will also run very high. Something with 1500 watts is about all a typical circuit can handle. These devices usually have auto-shut off components if they get too hot.

No way! A typical iron is about 1000 watts. If used for 6 hours per week it will consume about 4 Kwh @ 12p Total cost - 48p per week as an example. An immersion heater could cost £6.00 -£7.00 per week for 3 hours per day. A fridge or a freezer will cost about 65p-80p per week. An electric shower will be about £1.10 per hour but only 6-7p for a five minute shower. The point is its not just the load of the appliance, but the load multiplied by the time it's used for. If you leave a 100watt light burning for a week it will cost £2.00!!

No I doubt it,An electric shower would probably use most, followed by an immersion heater,Electric fires or radiators, washing machine, tumble dryer, Do you have an electric stove? All these tend to use more electricity than an iron, as do kettles, percolators, fryers etc..

I was told it is anything that gets something hot and anything that makes something go round that burn up electricity the fastest - so if you have a fan heater that's the most expensive combination. The hotter it needs to be the worse it is - since we have had an electric oven our bills have been much higher than before.

Washing Machine - 3Kw
Electric Fire - 1Kw
Electric Lamp - 100w
Colour Tv - 300w
Kettle - 2Kw
Computer - 120w
Immersion Heater - 3Kw
Fan Heater - 3Kw
Iron - 800w
So really, yeah, Iron is high-cost, but relatively low compared to some appliances.

Anything that heats with electricity is very inefficient! The most expensive to run in your home? Probably your refrigerator. Microwave takes more power, but usually in short bursts.;-)=

Tumble driers are meant to be hard on electricity - anything that heats up is expensive to run generally.

not at all unless you leave it on 24/7 most irons automatically shut off if not moved in a short period of time- many other appliances use far more energy-ex/ dryer- oven, etc.
