Moth balls are great and last awhile, plus they keep snakes and other critters away. Just make sure you drop them all the way around garden or planting area, roughly a foot apart or less.
Sprinkle Red or Cayenne pepper around the edge of the garden- that will keep many mammals from entering (this is commonly used for dogs). You will need to repeat this once weekly for the next 3 weeks (depending on rainfall) and maybe once a month after that.
Another idea would be a miniature scarecrow.
As someone else stated, I have heard of ppl placing items that contain human smell in the garden, but you have to replace it weekly.

Moth balls usually do the trick.. Spread 10 of them on the ground over every foot of garden that you have.

Fill old socks with your hair, pet hair, dryer lint, slivers of scented soap, vacuum cleaner lint, anything human smelling and place around the perimeter of your garden. Kept deer and rabbits out of my vegie garden. good luck
