If only they had another Alexander, then the EU would be part of a new Macedonian Empire. O well Pella is in Greece and Alexander along with any hopes of Macedonia being slightly more than a second rate Balkan State are dead.

There is no republic of Macedonia. Macedonia is a part of Greece which is already part of EU.

If you refer to the newborn country FYROM, then be sure that it will NEVER become part of Europe with the name "Republic of Macedonia" (Greece will definitely veto such an attempt) because this name conflicts with the historical Macedonia in Greece.

I am affraid you will have to pick a new name for your newborn country. And pick something which is not historical this time. (Dont use the name Incas or Mayas or Aztecs or Mesopotamians.)

What you've just described is membership to the EU. If you just want an economic sphere of cooperation then the EEC would do but you want open borders - and that's EU.

You've answered your own question.
