I'd say that's pretty out of touch, especially considering that the average politician probably isn't judged on the appearance of their hair. On the other hand, an actor or model of some sort could justify such an expense.....regardless, I spent $10 on my last haircut at the local barber, and he does pretty good work.....

Too cynical. His call for eliminating tax cuts is for those closer to his own income bracket. However, his health coverage plan does call for across the board increase, I think - which is cheaper than the total spent on benefits currently, so there ya go.
Let me not dismiss your point too fast. If Edwards stumbles, it won't be because of a haircut - it will be because he either doesn't have an agenda, or the one he has won't be convincing, and/or his agenda will be excoriated in the campaign in a way that he can't parry - in which case he'll be known for his haircut. Heck, Phil Gramm had more money than God in 1996 and had to drop out before New Hampshire.
All of which is to say that if you're fixating on his haircut, you don't look deeply at issues. If you oppose Edwards, fine - but do so on political grounds (he has said more and been more explicit than any other candidate so far) rather than on superficialities.

Freedom to spend your hard earned cash is essentially to your own happiness. Whos to say you $5 haircut is not a luxury, people in india work a whole year to earn $5.
People that dont have money typically think they know how others should spend money.
Also more taxes would lead to a stagnant economy and life. Look at sweden, everyone lives in the same house, same cheap car, same life when they are 20-90. And no wonder so many people commit suicide there.

I really don't care how much someone pays for a haircut, but if
it's someone who is representing me in Washington and they are so out of touch that they don't realize that they can probably get just as good a haircut for 30 or 40 bucks that's when I take notice, because that person is likely to be just as wasteful and ignorant with "my" tax money when they get into office.

He is totally out of touch and you are not being too cynical. A politician that would pay $400.00 for a haircut would not mind spending $200.00 on a toilet seat for the government. He would send government spending through the clouds.

I am a conservative but I don't think it makes that big a difference anymore than having to be poor to be in touch with poor people. What I consider important is whether or not a candidate has strong moral character and truly supports the Constitution. How much he spends on a haircut or if he knows how much a gallon of milk costs is irrelevant to me.

Politician do not care about the middle class because the middle class will not stand together and vote for a man that will help them.
Minorities stand together a vote for the man who give them what they want, that why we are now a welfare state.
Big business buys there vote, that was America is losing jobs to China and illegals.

I think many politicians Con, Dem, Ind. whatever are out of touch with reality. Most have no clue as to how it is in the real world.

i didnt even realize the american middle class still existed..i thought current politics of the past decade or so has destroyed the middle class leaving either the over-burdened working class or the uber-rich who represent only a small percentile of the total population.
