One of my many goals is to become a chemist, no doubt I have some chance of doing so, but in devoting some portion of my life to that goal, I give up may other options. Absurd positivism isn't going to change that. We are all born to a prison, we might push the walls in any direction, but the prison still surrounds us.

You are free to do whatever you want, of course you have to live with the consequences. Hmmm.

Goal setting is essential to achieve your aspirations.
Be focus in your mindset.
Though there may be obstacles, do perservere.
Many people just give up.
Yes....Do look up to the Statue of Liberty and outsretch
your mind.
Though, there may be trappings, be like Tobey;
soar like Jonathan Livington Seagull.

That's not a lie. The fault is in the person, whether it be low self esteem, self respect, self pride, or just the simple fact that they can't make up their mind. That is generally what America is, a country filled with people who can't make up there mind because they are bombarbed with different choices day in and day out. Love it.

I think it's a valid statement.. I think we come up short because we can often misunderstand what's meant by "put your mind to" it... I remember hearing Prah (I know, lousy reference) talk to a woman who was overweight and miserable. She told Oprah: I just don't want to be fat anymore, but I can't find time to eat well or get to the gym... Oprah told her: Then you don't want to lose weight. If you wanted to do it, you would find the time. I think this true for anything. We have free will and can work towards almost anything, but the key is the work...

We must all pick our battle's and something is inevitably lost in the end. I think the prison you speak of is the limit of the horizon of our experiences and dreams. Kinda like closed minded vs. open minded people. It's what you make of it.

No....Life is what you make of it. You must be assertive. Things will not just come your way. If you really want something bad a enough, you will find a way to make it happen. It's mind over matter.

A lie? I know that's NOT true. In America you truly can be anything, you have to have the dream then pursue it, letting others help when they will and having the faith to try.

Is there a more punishing self-imposed doom than, "I can't do it"?

It's your life, and you can lead it as you see fit. I think you'll be happier if you set your goals high, and work hard to achieve them.

Ad astra per Aspira...

It's only a lie if you are a defeatist by nature. If you are a coward and afraid to try, then you would naturally accuse the speaker of lying. That way you don't have to blame yourself for your own failure.

Everything is Mind...Everything is Psychological. Therefore, you are what you think you are and can do whatever you think you can. The opposite also happens to be true.
