Dust, then vacuum. Try using a microfiber cloth
that you have dampened and wrung out very tightly,
so it is barely damp. Air filters help a lot.

Dust comes flying in never ending supplies, I know.
If your heat comes from a furnace that is accessible to you, make sure that the filter is changed monthly during the heating season. I used my furnace in the summer for blowing air around - filter should be checked and exchanged then also.

One of the answers you received was asking if you have a lot of fabric in the room, and that gave me an idea. Years ago I read a tip from "Eloise". She suggested that items that cannot easily be washed, like sofa pillows or sofa blankets, should be placed in the clothes dryer on air (no heat) for at least 15 minutes. This way the dust is shaken loose and blown outdoors, and you don't have to wrestle with the vacuum cleaners to clean pillows. The same should be done with drapes that cannot be washed.

Other than that, I would mop the floors damp weekly. Same with the furniture. I like to use a bit of Murphy's Oil soap in the water. This smells nice and fresh.

Good luck, and while cleaning, turn the radio to your favorite station.

Do you have alot of fabric in your room? When you dust are you trapping the dust or just moving it around and letting it become airborne? It will help to do a very good dusting from top first to bottom but you have to trap the dust or you will never get rid of it. Using something that makes the rag or duster damp will do this. Put fabrics in the dryer or vacuume them useing a hepa filter. Always do the floor last and often but don't use a broom ,use a damp mop. When you sweep with every swipe of the broom you make dust go airborne and it has to land somewhere!

I have the same problem wiyh one room ( heating vent)closet to the frunace; it gets dustier than any other rooms in the house, other rooms need dusting once a week that room at least every other day. Being closer to the furnace is the only thing I can think of.

Purchase a good air cleaner. They work well. Electronics, freeways, roads, winds, etc cause dust. Pets too. Be sure to vacuum and then dust. Good luck.

Has your a/c, heat ducting been cleaned at any time?

We had ours cleaned and it helped for a while, then the dust factor came back.

Get lighter colored furniture. Mine is dark also and I know what you mean.
