it's very difficult, but you and your co-workers can get together after work for drinks or dinner and decide as a group to discuss this with him--or not. You may just decide among yourselves to stop all the infighting. Make sure all the women are on the same page, though. If there is a dissenter, she may make trouble by going to the Boss secretly.

I've seen female bosses do this, too, and I've seen both genders do this to mixed-gender employee groups. In my humble opinion, it's more a question of power than of gender, or one of insecurity. Only a weak boss maintains authority in such weak ways.

I agree with Constant Reader. Why are the women falling for this crap? Get them all together....explain it to them, with examples, if they haven't figured it out for themselves. Soon, your supervisor will see a united front...then it will be time to watch him squirm...

Call your females together, explain what you see happening, and hopefully then you'll have a meeting of the minds with them, and later with your boss, en masse. That'll get him off all your backs!
