have a pen and paper right by ur bed and as soon as you wake up wrtie down what u remember cause it will be more fresh in your mind..but if u never remember ur dreams then

The key to having a rich dream life—is to learn how to wake up slowly—so that we can prolong contact with our subconscious minds.

Most of us, as soon as we awaken in the morning, allow our minds to wander off—to worrying about work, or school, or getting the kids ready—or we begin talking with our spouse or bed partner about our schedules for the day. If we do not work to recall our dreams immediately upon awakening, we will have missed a crucial opportunity.

Waking up S L O W L Y means that we lie still in bed, without talking, keeping our eyes closed, and working diligently to try to remember what it was we were just dreaming about—because we always dream just before we wake up in the morning.

If we don’t immediately recall a specific image or sequence from a dream, it is important nevertheless to remain still, and allow ourselves to evaluate our feelings. Dreams always leave us with an emotional “hangover.” Did we wake up feeling tense, frustrated, happy, sad, worried? Were we looking for someone, or trying to accomplish a task?

Once we’ve tuned in to our feelings, we want to reach for our dream journal (that we keep faithfully at our bedside—any pad of paper will do!) and write down four sentences:


What was the key image in the dream?

What was the key feeling?

Where was the dream located?

What situation in our waking life does this dream remind me of?
These four questions will help identify the dream’s meaning, and will help us recall the dream later in the day, when we have more time to reflect upon it, in a clear-headed state. Another goal of writing four sentences is that it helps keep our journal entry brief, and thus easier to faithfully record. (It can be tough to write in the morning—before we’ve had our coffee!)

The third step to having a rich dream life is the simplest of all. Before we go to bed at night, we want to confirm our intention to remember our dreams—and to wake up slowly the following morning. If you sleep with a partner, be sure to ask him or her to give you some “quiet time” first thing in the morning.

It sounds simple—and it is! If you follow these 3 easy steps for two weeks, I guarantee that you will soon be starring in your dreams—on a daily basis!

An excellent question. By the way, remembering your dreams may be a step towards developing psychic ability. Most important is having the intention of remembering your dreams when you go to sleep at night. Secondly, and just as important, is having a pen and paper ready to write down dreams you remember upon waking in the morning. That may sound very simple, but it works. Write down key points about your dreams every opportunity you get. We dream every night, but we do not always remember them even if we remember more dreams than the average person does. No one remembers all of their dreams, so don't feel discouraged. Start a journal and by doing that you will increase the number of dreams that you remember.

Okay.... Essentially my answer has already been covered to some degree in each answer I read.

One, set an alarm for just a little earlier than you may normally wake up. Throughout the night, you will move in an out of REM sleep ("Rapid Eye Movement") which is that part of sleep we dream in. You may (and probably do) have multiple dreams during the night varying from a mini-dream (not much more than some random flashes) to a full dream (what we usually consider dreaming). Supposedly, the longer cycles of REM happen in the early morning hours (or the later half of your sleep). Setting the alarm will draw you out of sleep when dreams is still more fresh in your awareness.

Two, keep a dream journal next to you bed. Many of us can and do remember our dreams when we first wake. But as we direct our attention to getting up and moving forward in our day, we let dreams fade from consciousness. The journal helps to record it so you can come back to consider and interpret it when you have more time.

Well, usually when you first wake up, those first few seconds you remember the entire dream. I would suggest you keep a pen and paper next to your bed so that when you get up you quickly jot down what you still remember of the dream.

However, during the course of the next few days you tend to remember details here and there from the dream. It's quite normal not to remember dreams, I have no idea why...but it's important to note that dreams aren't exactly windows into your soul and they're not premonitions either. They don't tell you what will happen in the future nor will they tell you your greatest desires, it's simply a slide show presentation of whatever was on your mind right before you fell asleep or in your sub-consciousness that were combined together and placed into a "movie" aka your dreams.

There is no point in trying to interpret them because they might simply be nothing and represent nothing. So, just enjoy your dream ( if it was a good one) and move on : )

Many people can and I don't. It is a good guestion. I have a bad memory all the time so maybe increase your memory ability awake and it could happen. It may be just a gift or 6th sence of some kind. If you get a real anwser from someone let me know because I also ask myself that same question everytime I wake up. My wife remembers hers and desciibes them, I can only rememerber what it was about, by the time I can tell about it or write it, I forgot it. In a psychology class I took a few years ago, we talked about dreams. One way that I learned from that class is that as soon as you wake up, get a pen and paper and write whatever you dreamed about that night on paper. You'll be surprised what you remember once do that every night. I stopped writing my dreams down and now I hardly remember a single thing that I dream about unless it's pretty bizarre. LOL!

I've heard that if you wake up after a dream and you want to remember it, you should write it down right away. If not, by morning, it is gone or you can't remember the details. They say to keep a pen and paper next to your bed so you can write them down immediately. I had the weirdest dream last week and I wrote down 3 pages. It was so strange to reread it in the morning, but it was very detailed. Give this a try, it really works.

You can't force yourself to remember your dreams. I'll attach a link that will help you understand what i mean. Read on the part of extrovertion-introvertion. The explanation in the link doesn't include dreams. But it is basically the same. If your extrovert, your brain has strong inhibition that's why you easily forget your dreams (well, most of it) as soon as you woke up. It the opposite when your introvert. Your brain has weak inhibition that is why it has a slow pace of "protecting" or "inhibiting" any thoughts, perceptions, or dreams... that's why you can't easily forget. Just read the info in the link... it will help a lot (i hope).

dont instantly get up out of bed. just ly there and dont move much, and try and think about any details of the dream. they say as soon as you stretch you forget. Not sure if its actually true :).
