Got a 1/4 violin from local freecycler as I figure my son may or may not take to it, plus he will outgrow this size soon, but anyhow the bow is shot, so I am wondering how much it costs to re-hair it?

Seems like the price of a bow plus shipping is almost the same cost as picking up another cheap violin!!!

Thanks in advance....

I couldn't imagine it being a fortune, dear. Sorry I couldn't help you out.

A restring will set you back anywhere between $75-$125 depending on your bow. With that they inspect, clean and replace vital frog components. A pernambuco bow is by far the best on the market today. Though the chinese hav made some good bows at a good price. you just need to jump onto ebay and look for bows to suit. You will be surprised.

Rehairing a violin bow should cost you around $45 - $50 roughly.
