It's true that it varies from different kinds of people but it's more of an age thing. Basically if you're still a kid maybe 10 hours. But if you're an adult it's at least 8 hours. But some get by with 6-7 hours.

The best is maybe 9-10 hours. Makes your skin feel good and you feel energized! But it really depends on some people cause some folks can't sleep for more than 8 hours and some can sleep for 12 hours like a cat.

I personally can sleep for 12-14 hours straight. I need someone to wake me up.

This depends largely on developmental stage. Adolescents even up to mid-20's need large amounts of sleep due to cognitive restructuring in the brain that occurs from birth until maturity. Around 10 hours is normal and necessary to enable this brain development. Children also need this much sleep. Adults should get regular sleep between 8 and 9 hours. It is also important to note that staying up late then sleeping in on weekends actually starts to adjust your internal clock and should really be avoided. Not much fun though.

First off, I have to laugh at the answers concerning "the older you get" the less sleep that is needed. Maybe that's why I don't get much sleep? LOL 6 - 8 hours is what is needed though.

There have been lots of studies by medical science on this one. The general consensus, as reported, is somewhere in the neighborhood of 6-8 per nite . . .
It has been noted that those with higher intelligence levels, usually perform better with less (4-6) hours per nite . . Seems that the very young and the very old sleep many more hours than the average.

It differs for different people. I think at least 6 hours, however, I rarely get that. Many people seem to be able to function on less sleep than others. The best is to get 8 hours of uninterupted sleep to be at your best, but I don't know many who get that much sleep.
