His permanent secretary gave me a mini-handover and she seemed a little bit frazzled. Just as I was going to leave her office she said, "Make sure you keep your head down while you're working here, he's a good looking man". Do you know what she might have meant by this? I have never met him before until today and no, he's not very nice looking.

I think she is worried that you might perform better than her and she might not have a job to come back to. So I think she is saying to you "Don't get too friendly with the boss. Just do your job and nothing more, you're just a temp."

There's a few ways to interpret what she said...
1) The secretary thinks he's good looking so she's telling you to keep your head down so you won't stare at him all day.
2) There's something going on between the boss and the secretary and she's telling you "hands off, he's mine".
3) She meant that the boss closely monitors the employees during the day to make sure they are actually working. Also a warning to you since you are a temp and will be watched more closely than everyone else.
4) Also possible she meant for you to keep your head down and away from the boss so you don't take the job of the person who is on vacation.
Since you said he isn't good looking I would assume she meant #3 above. Considering you are the 1st temp this company has had the boss will be leary of & watching you closely for the first few days until he sees what kind of worker you are. The best thing you can do is do the best job you possibly can.

well since you said he's not a good looking man....I have no idea what she meant.
I would suggest keeping your head up..do your best for the few weeks you're there.....and don't worry about what other ppls comments are ...just keep on doin what you're there to do *
