Pick up some foam visors and foam stickers to decorate the visors with.
Pick up cheap purses or canvas tote bags and fabric paint pens and let them have fun creating their own bags. Add iron on patches if you want.

These are two things I did for my daughter at her last birthday part which had kids 6-12 yrs and they all loved it. When they finished their purses, I put there "take home treats" into their bags.

Have fun!

I have 17 grandkids who stay with me on hols. They ALL like to play with playdough. I make my own and you can keep it in an airtight container for months. Just bring it out with moulds or biscuit cutters and watch the fun. Recipe for a large amount is 3 cups SR flour, 3 cups cold water, 3 tablespoons cooking oil, 11/2 cups cooking salt, 1 packet cream of tartar, food colouring. Mix it all together in a large saucepan and cook on stove, stirring all the time. It will get hard to stir, but will start to cling together. When it is ready, you can take a piece from mix to roll in your fingers and it will not stick to your hands. Turn out and knead lightly, it should not stick to board. Do not use any more flour when you turn it out. Be careful when cooking as it will stick to bottom of pan if you dont stir it enough. Fill pan with water after turning dough out, let stand for a while. It will be easy to clean. Have fun!.

If you're interested in polymer clay, they're both old enough to enjoy doing lots of things with it.
Check out this page at my site if you're interested... the projects there could often be done with air-dry clays too, even homemade ones like bread clay or salt dough clay:

You might want to check out the Christmas-Winter or the Halloween & Other Holidays pages too since there are many simple projects there:

My girls enjoy painting. They are ages 6 and twins that are 5. They also have shown an interest in doing plastic canvas. I started myself at that age so maybe you'r older child may enjoy it too. Building is always a good thing too. I have a tom boy and that is all she wants to do is build stuff.

cutting and glueing are good, make collages, Paper machee is also a good craft idea if you can stand the mess, As for a twelve year old, well, i can't get him out from behind the play station for long enough and when he is present most everything is "BORING", typical 12 year old.

When my kids were young I used to make them play dough from flour/salt/food colouring and a little olive oil (recipe on the net) they loved it, its cheap and it keeps for weeks.

To search I went to Google and typed in children's crafts. You can also do kids crafts, or easy crafts, etc.
