I bought my car brand new in January. I read in the manual that you're not supposed to take it to it's first oil change until you need to. The thing is, I barely drive it. Since January 4th, I've racked up a total of 1,386 miles. The Oil Meter on my car says that the Oil Life is at 70%. Should I change it since it's been more than three months? Or should I let a few more miles get on the car first?

It's not like if you get an oil change sooner than you needed to you will have a problem. I don't understand why all of these people are telling you not to. Change the oil. It has been almost 5 months and you should get the oil changed every 3 because even if it just sits there, dust, dirt, and other things will build up into over that time. Stop being cheap or lazy, you just got this car and you need to maintenence it. Better to have it changed than not. Nothing bad can come of getting the oil changed sooner than you HAVE to. In fact, it is probably a better idea to do so since so many people fool around.

Change your oil!

The oil life meters displayed on newer cars are calculated by the engine control computer through a combination of variables, including: speed, distance driven, temperature of the environment you are driving in, driving conditions (such as stop and go), and the time it has been since your last oil change. I would follow the oil life meter on your vehicle. They are pretty accurate.

Always go by the mileage of the car. I never did understand why they put down the month that it should be changed. Go to the 3000 miles and then chage it.
