You have to look at all perspectives of this. Not only Did he two hand a guy in the chest with the edge of his stick, he also drew the Slashing Penalty for two big hard slashes to the side in the rib area. Both were done with no reason of justice either. Franzen wasn't even in the crease or touched him. He was just standing in front of the net. Its McLennan's Defenses fault anyway because they allowed it the whole game from the Wings! The other thing you have to look at is McLennan is only a back up and is still under another 2-3 yrs of contract with Calgary. He can't go anywhere and probably would play only 10-15 games next season anyway! They Should Suspend him for the rest of the Playoffs, and for the first half of next season. (Christmas Time)

Playfair (what an Oxymoron of a name) should get suspended the rest of the Playoffs, and be fined!

Because McLennan is a backup goalie, any suspension would just be "lip"service. Playfair ought to be suspended for the remainder of the playoffs as well as a few months into next season. In a 5-1 game with less than a couple minutes to go, putting McLennan in to "rest" Kiprosoff(however you spell it), is the same as putting your goons on the ice for the last 30 seconds. Deplorable coaching and if the NHL is serious about cleaning up the game, then suspending the coach is the only way to get the message out.

Well McLennan is a backup goalie so he sits on the side anyways, that's jarring enough. He should only be suspended for one game. It was a very fustrating game yesterday for the flames, I really can't blame them for getting a bit crazy toward the end.
I mean when I saw him slash that player in the gut, I had a patrick roy flash back. He did **** like that all the time and he was a great.

The league likely gives him 10 games knowing full well this is a 35 year old career backup and it will have the same effect as the McSorley stick swing. It cost him his career and this incident very likely ends McLennans career as well. Not that it matters much but the guy was probably making somewhere near $1 million per to basically take notes (Kipper doesnt sit much). Pretty costly swing....hope it was worth it.

I'm a Sens fan and I think Emery's was worse. Emery's looked to hit him harder, again, I am sort of siding with Don Cherry (which is rare - I'm a Sens fan, not a Leafs fan), and it looked a lot worse than it was. I wouldn't go as far as saying a tap, but the stick didn't hit him at that high of a speed.

Regardless, I say 5 games.

And Lebda 2-games for that low/dirty/clipping hit.

20 games. Chris Simon got about that many, although I can't remember off the top of my head the actual number. It was totally uncalled for being that he was never provoked. Also, there were an awful lot of missed calls on the side of the Flames, especially in the last three games. The refs seem to be helping out the Flames quite a bit. Games need to be called fairly or what's the point?

You're looking at about 3 games max, Emery swung at a guy's face remember, I'm not saying this was any better, but there is a difference between swinging at the midsection and swinging at the face

umfortunetley he's a backup so its not that uber important. i hope he gets 15. that's probably best. Simon's was worse only because he hit the guy in the neck.

The entire CGY team should be kicked out of the playoffs.

iginla should get 5 for the cross check.

even though im a diehard wings fan. i think when the CGY player got clipped and punched the wings player. that was a good revenge hit. both should have been in the box but i guess the ref felt bad for who got clipped.

Simon got 25 but his was a lot worse. I would say 10 is steep but maintains consistancy. Normally, I would say even fewer but it looked like CGY actually put him in just to hack and slash. I have never seen any goalie used as an enforcer before. (Emery could though).

MIn 25 games

Absolutely disgusting display of poor sportsmanship!!!

I root for Canadian teams ...but I hope the Flames get booted from the play offs ...

They don't deserve to win after that childlike behaviour !!!

Calgary Flames Totally Suck !!!

April 23 /Monday ...

Just to correct Misen 55....
Coach Jim Playfair recieved the $25000 fine
Calgary Flames Fined $100 000
And Mc Lennan recieves a slap on the wrist (5 games)

So I guess Goalies can polish up on their golf swings whlie playing hockey now .....

Way to Go NHL ....Your sending out a great message !!!!
