One of our locals is nick named The Bug.It's real name is the Prince Arthur but many years ago it was a proper doss house----hence the name.Our local Gasworkers Club is the Tank----after the old gasometers(gas tanks).Most are just shortened names or references to long gone landlords.My first pub was always called The Wooly---it was the Woolpack.The Crown near St Mary's church was called The Vatican---full of priests and churchgoers---their whiskey trade was phenomenal.The labour club was refered to as The Shirt----short for dirty shirt,from the canal workers who went in straight from work in their dirty clothes.

Theres a pub near me called The Hogs Head, I've changed the letters round to call it The Dog Shed, as this is more fitting!

Our is the 'Rollers Arms' - might sound a bit odd, but it was the watering hole for the local steelworks, and all the lads from the rolling mill used to rehydrate after work there.
