Alot of people I know love Dan Mario. Statistically, no one was better then Marino. But I believe that at the end of the day statistics are worthless at the end of the day. Marino could have thrown for 500 yards in a Superbowl, but if he lost what do those 500 yards mean. Nothing. The best team on paper does not always win. What matter are the intangleables. How bad someone wants it.
When I approach the question of who was the best I look at this; when the game is on the line, who do you want quarterbacking your offence. Saying that at this point in time one cannot imagine a better QB then Joe Montana. Joe “Cool” was a gamebreaker. With him the game was never over. He went head to head against Marino in Super Bowl XIX. Marino finished with 300 yards and 2 interceptions, both inside the Red Zone. Montana was the victor. He was 4-0 in the in the Superbowl. Only Terry Bradshaw can say he accomplished that feat. In the big game, Montana just didn’t make mistakes.
As for help. Ya, Montana had Jerry Rice, but only for a few years. Montana won two Superbowls, before Jerry Rice even made a name for himself.
That why I think Montana is the best QB to ever play football. He always showed up when the game was on the line.
After Montana well that another story, but I don’t think its Marino. In a few years it may very well be Tom Brady, who plays the game very much like Joe "Cool".

I say Tom Brady.
Tom Brady won 3 championships without a lot of help and without ever putting up big statistics. Besides the fact that they have Bill Belichek and a solid defense most of the Patriots that won Superbowls were virtually unknowns.
You could say Joe Montana might be the best QB with 4 rings but he had Jerry Rice. Also, Terry Bradshaw had Lynn Swann, Franco Harris and the Steel Curtain.

There is always going to be debate on this topic and difference of opinion. My opinion is that Joe Montana is the greatest of all time. My reasoning is this, he won 4 Super Bowls, had one of the best passer ratings ever (92.3 career passer rating). He also was a great field general, he always kept his cool and always beleived his team could comeback from any defecit no matter how great it was, and often times did. Sure, there are others that were great and had wonderful careers. You look at guys like Dan Marino who had a better statistical career and broke more records, but how many SB's has he won? Being a quarterback is about winning games, plain and simple. Thats what "Joe Cool" was all about, winning games!

Peyton Manning
He will have at least 3 championships, every passing record in the books, and at least 3 MVP's
The 3 championships will equal Brady, and rival Montana, while the records and MVP's make Brady look like a total joke.
Montana's statistics really aren't that impressive compared to Marino's, Elway's, or Moon's.
Manning will have championships equal to Brady, MVP's equal to Favre, durability equal to Favre, and statistics equal to Marino. Add to that play-calling responsibiliy equal to Staubach.
Therefore, Greatest quarterback = Peyton Manning

Brett Favre He has won more superbowls with a lesser team than any other the qb lets skip the fact that I hate tom brady He has always had top dollar talent to back him up. Bradshaw is good but had swann and stallworth and franco at RB Montana had rice ( thats all any qb needs) Marino has no ring and a much as I love peyton he only has one ring sure HOF but greatest ever no. Unitas is one of the best but dosen't have as long as a career which leaves us with why you left ainkman and staubach off the question?

It is Joe Montana, so why did you put Unitas at 1?...Also, Tom Brady is probably #3 behind only Montana and Bradshaw...and I dunno...You left out Troy Aikman and John Elway, who are both in the top 10...

The greatest quarterback of all-time would be Brett Favre. No one was as durable, has the numbers, and wins like him. Montana had the wins, Marino had the numbers, and Manning has the durability, none has all three.

Jim McMahon is probably the best raw QB ever. If not for a terrible front office in Chicago and some bad luck with injuries his name would be mentioned with those above. He wasn't the greatest passer or scrambler but he was a winner. For my money there was no better competitor at QB.
If I had to pick someone from your list it would be Marino. Every other QB on the list had a good RB behind them to keep the defense on their toes. Measuring QB's by the number of championships they have won is a little obsurd, last time I checked there were 11 guys on the field for each team at a time, not one. The misconception that great QB's win super bowls is laughable.
