It depends on the situation. You can't be too careful all the time because sometimes we make mistakes in judgment, and we don't want to have boring lives.

realistic? as far as what though? your vague in your question? realism could be sadism, or joyism! sounds like your more negative than posotive, which I would say, no! do you mean advantageous, because being in a position of advantage is not so bad, as long as you do good with it. However being advantageous in bad circumstances is not a good thing, and thats why we have pimps, drug lords, and sick government officials. So I would argue that being sly and keen is a detriment to yourself. While being honest, forthcoming and joyful is a way better person to be, and would also be better for the greater good. I really don't get your question, and what your obtaining too, but It's still a worthwhile effort to seek. So my answer is, as you know, Not good! Realism can mean so much. Towards the media? Towards your own concerns? Towards mankind? Towards global warming? Towards suicide attacks? Towards Panda bears that are chained up? You need to be more specific, because I could generalize all day, and max out this msg!

I assume your reffering to your attitude toward life. It would depend on what it is your being realistic about. To some extent it is good to be realistic because it will allow you to set yourself attainable goals in life and determine what you need to do to accomplish those goals. On the other hand, your being overly realistic may cause friction between you and other people who choose to dream big and set themselves goals that you might consider unattainable.
I think you need to consider the situation you're in and who you are with before letting loose with a long stream of realism that might shatter someone elses world. The attitude you take towards life is your own choice to make but like with any other attitude you need to know when to tone it down for the sake of others who may not share your outlook.

I'm not sure if that answered your question but those are my thoughts on the subject anyway. :)

the benefits of being too realistic far outweigh the disadvantages. You're more grounded, you're more in tune with what's happening in the world, you know what your priorities should be, etc.

If your head is constantly in the clouds, then you'll have no idea what's going on in the world, and you'll be more child than adult.

But it is important not to be too realistic that you end up a pessimist. It is possible to find the perfect balance between optimism and realism.

Hmmm, not if the layered realism prevents the desire for a bit of escapism. Futility is actually a good thing to rebel against. Too much logic and one will begin to talk and act like Mr Spock.

yes because if you're realistic, you're bound to act rationally or within the bounds of what's possible. but i think sometimes it's ok to think unrealistically (?) because with that, you can see how far you'' have to go to achieve something even though it's not the norm. successful people don't always think realistically. they overcame refusal from many people before they hit it right.

realistic = rigidity

think about all the inventions that would never have been invented if people had been more realistic...for example, people cannot fly...but oh yes they can!

discovering and exploring the possiblilities is what life is all about....
