Rent a jamb saw. Don't know about the UK, but I'd assume you can rent one at a rental store. It is like a circular saw, but with fence on the side, and you rise or lower the height as needed. Here it costs $30-40 US for a half day, but worth the money. Or you can buy a handsaw with an offset blade for the purpose, about $10, but it is harder to work with, because you can't control the cut as easily as you can with an electric jamb saw. If you have casing against an exterior door, it is very difficult to get at it with a jamb saw, but the electric one can because it has a circular blade.

I once cut 7-8 jambs, plus casing on an exterior door in a house remodel in about 15-20 minutes, using the rental jamb saw. It would have taken around two hours with a handsaw. And the cuts were better.

Done it both ways. Rent one if you have more than two or three jambs. If you only have one or two, and don't want to spend time returning a tool, then you might want to get hand jamb saw. Otherwise, the rental is money well spent.

Good Luck

Looking at the other answers, some good, some not, but there are different types of electric jambs saws. So I did a search on jambsaws. The crain 812 is the kind I suggest if you can find one.

I've used the other kinds, but that type is best. I'd bet you can rent something like that in the UK.

a saws all.... but in the uk i don't know. there is a special tool just for that job...but no reason to get one if it is a one time only. do you have any hardware stores that you can rent from...saws all is your best bet...or something that has a bendable saw like a regular hand saw..a bit tricky but i have seen it done.use a small block of wood on the floor were you plane to cut the jam to steady the saw blade.

one correct way , and all you need is a hand saw and an off cut of the flooring :::::::
place the off cut on the floor next to the arcitrave , place the saw on the off cut and saw the bottom off , repeat moving around the frame ::::::now you just have square cuts to do in the flooring , and it will slide under:::!!!

If you mean the stops? there's only one way!! Just use an offcut of laminate laid flat and rest the saw against it to make the cut. If you want to cut the blocks without removing them, you need a Fein Multimaster or Supercut.

Tools needed depend on whether or not you plan on taking off the casing and stops and replacing them:
1. Back saw, miter box, chisel, pry bar, hammer, ruler, square, pencil, level.
2. Or if you just want to use a saw, ruler, chisel, long handle screw driver, pencil and hammer.

The electric jamb saw works well, but if you can't find one Marples makes a Japanese pull saw that works excellent. http://www.irwin.com/irwin/consumer/jhtml/detail.jhtml?prodId=IrwinProd100269

Never do that! Cut your laminate to fit round the frames like everyone else does. It's easier and less expensive if you make a mess.
