I have been told that there is a fish that changes colour whilst it is asleep but I can not remember the name of the fish. Please help so I can rest!

they are the bosmani rainbow fish . they go darker in colour.

Quite a few fish will do this - especially brightly colored ones or ones that contrast with the color of the environment. There's nothing quite like these colors to advertise "Here I am!". So most fish will become pale so they blend into their environment better.

I think the colours of neon tetras fade at night.

A lot of cichlids will do this, as well as change color with stress/mood. Some pout and play dead as well. Ahli and Oscar are two good examples.

mum there's a quite a few tetra, rainbow and Chilids species that do that.
