How do you discipline your child now?

Question

As a child, I could not talk back to my parents, or dad would hit me in the head with his fist. Other times if I cried for something, he would say, "You better stop crying...or I will give you something to really cry about".

Do parents spank children now? How do you disicipline your child?

yes I spank my children hitting a child in the head with your fist is child abuse and before it was child abuse it was assault that is not spanking and for the person who said you should meet your children half way I say sure when they pay half the bills this is my house my rules no exceptions and no bargaining

I don't need to anymore but I used to spank. Not hard but just enough to make my point. As a matter of fact I only did it a few times. Now my child responds to verbal punishment instead. No, I don't mean assaulting language but I tell her something and it gets done. If she makes her opposition strongly I simply correct her by talking it out and no it generally isn't one of the Brandy Bunch talks either. Realistically, I raise my voice and everyone shuts up. Then I explain the problem and if she still doesn't agree then I let her know I understand her problem but she better do what I am telling.....or else.

Hey, I was raised like you though. I caught the end of the belt which had the buckle and no it was not aimed at my butt. It generally landed were ever I could take the hit. However, it didn't make me behave. Instead it made me even more rebellious until the day came were I was able to finally take my step-father out (15 with a lot of weight training and wrestling).

I think the secret is to know when to use it and when not too. There are ages which are too young and then there are ages which is too old. You just gotta know your kid.

I think parents should spank their kids when the point isn't getting across. But there is a difference between discipline and abuse. It sounds like you were abused. You have to be firm with your kids. Be a parent not a friend. Too many people try to be friends with their kids and then they end up on Nanny 911 lol Your kids need to know you are the boss and you're doing it for their own good.

I do spank my son, but only if he's done something really bad. Normally, I'll take away his video game, computer priviledges, and take away his outside activities like skating, skateboarding, and riding his bike. I do believe in spanking, and I think more parents should do it, but you have the ones that say that spanking your child is somehow teaching violence, but I spank mine because I don't want any violence he may have inside aimed at me. We discuss the reason he's in trouble, and what he thinks I should do. By the way, my son is 10.

my children get spanked, we warn them and then spanked for bad behavior, but if they did something wrong.... like lie then they get a spanking... you can't really give a warning. My husband has never hit their face, and we do not talk down to them.

as far as i know or atleast the people i know don't spank their children and personally i think its alot better to try and meet them half way, try and remember what it was like when you were that age and reason with them and if that doesnt work then take away some of their privledges like their playstations or the computers or xboxes

I can honestly sayI have three great kids twins 8yrs,9 yr. ,and I never had
to spank them.Talking is good ,but that may not work for
every parent.

I don't now. He is 22, a 5th degree black belt and a mercenary. He is one tough Jose and he would kick my *ss if I tried.

I try to explain to my child... but if she still doesn't want to listen.... I scare her with a stick....
