First, sex is only important because we, as a society, make it important. If everyone taught their children to wait until they were married before having sex, can you imagine the staggering drop in unwanted pregnancies, STDs, abortions, psychological disorders, crime, divorce, and high school dropouts? Until the past 60 or so years, sex education was taught at home - by both parents, depending on the sex of the child. The children were taught appropriate outlets for sex. Once we started allowing sex education in the public school systems, all of the above skyrocketed, and continue to rise, despite some very valiant efforts by the administration.

Second, we're not prohibited from teaching our children about sex. We have to sign a permission slip allowing our children to be taught (in our district, at least). In most places, it's a mandatory class. There are certain aspects of sex education that my children's teachers aren't qualified to teach them, and there's some teachers that are OVERqualified.

My children already know that "Ewwww" is meant to be enjoyed after one gets married - only for husbands and wives. I told me 6-year-old, when she asked, that only husbands and wives are supposed to be mommies and daddies, unless something bad happens. This satisfied her for the time being. When she gets older, we'll talk about it again. Eventually we'll talk about how to avoid becoming a mommy before she becomes a wife.

Abstinence sure isn't a fool-proof way to avoid some of life's problems, but it eliminates most of them.

medically children become sexually aware at the age of 2, in the sense that they are looking at their crotch thinking "wots all this about" it is a normal part of human development. while some say more librel thinking has caused more problems i disagree, my grandmother comes from that generation and her bf nocked her up and ran off, she told me about how there was a specil home where you can go so no one in your area knows ur having a ababy out of wedlock. she sed there were loads. clearly it hasnt become more common its become more common knowledge! and in countrys where the sex education is taught graphically at a young age those countrys have the lowest teenage pregency rate in the world.

I understand people wanting to protect their children but if you make it seem like a everday fact or life like how to peel a potatoe, they will be as intrested in sex as peeling a potatoe, they will think- rather not do it.

Who is prohibiting them? Parents should be the ones to tell there children about sex. and it is up to a parents judgement when to tell them.

Well, maybe people think that they aren't mature enough and that they would start to have sex without thinking about consequences. In my opinion it is stupid - I talk with my children about sex - it's part of normal life and I want them to have fun with it knowing that they are aware of how to avoid pregnancy and deceases.

Because parents are affraid the earlier they let them know about sex they think the earlier they will do it. but i think if you provide your child with the right info to respect them selves and teach them thats its not embarrising to talk about sex then they will feel ok to talk to you about it when it is a intrest to them.
