They are fascinated by American, European and Japanese products for quality and cultural influence reasons. Rich Filipinos lead the pack and the rest try to emulate them.
They also perceive Filipino products as not so great in quality and finish. I have seen many Filipinos buy cosmetics from American and other NATO countries PXs in Kosovo since they firmly believed that the same product in Philippines may be spurious even if there is a brand printed on it like Nivea or L'Oreal.

my step family is phillipino, and my step-mother goes to the bakery all the time.
