When someone kills a relative so they can collect the life insurance (and they get caught), does the murderer still get the money? If not, who gets the money?

What if the only kin is the murderer?

What a question. Anyway, the money should go to the dead person's other relatives, such as son, daughter, husband, and wife, other than that killer-relative.

If the father killed the mother, then the money should go to the son and daughter. It would not go to the father because the father is the killer.

No, they cannot collect. There are "Slayer Statues" in effect that in nearly every case bar recovery to the named beneficiary if the beneficiary is suspected and convicted of murdering the relative that had the insurance.

If there were no next of kin or contingent or tertiary beneficiaries named on the policy, an executor would be appointed by the State, the assets liquidated, debts paid.
If there were any remaining balance it would be held by the state for how every many years mandated by that State for a person that felt they were entitled to the money tries to claim/sue for it, then it would go to the State if no one collected it within the specified time frame.

No, it's probably labeled as insurance fraud and considered null and void or something.

I'd guess the next of kin would be notified, unless the relative had someone else also listed as a benificiary.

Nope. The law says you can't benefit from a murder. The money goes into the deceased person's estate.
