It's not bad for diesel engines. Just as well as diesel fuel. It's required for all diesel engines owned in Minnesota.

Biodiesel is very good for the diesel engine as well as the environment. It can be made from the oil of many seeds such as soybeans, peanuts, canola and sunflower. The same oils that are used for cooking. You have to put the oil through a process called transesterfication to reduce the viscosity to near the same as petro-diesel so it can be burned in an unmodified diesel engine. Biodiesel is often confused with SVO or straight vegetable oil, which can only be used in a modified diesel engine.
Modern diesels are more acceptable of biodiesel than older ones because biosiesel attacks the natural rubber components used in older fuel systems. This problem can be avoided by mixing biodiesel at a ratio of 3:1 with petro-diesel. I have been using my own homebrewed biodiesel in my 81 mercedes for over a year with great results and at huge savings over buying diesel at the pump.

No it's not bad as long as the mixture is right, If it is an unbalanced mix it just burns a little hotter and could damage a gasoline motor but not a diesel.

for the most part it is very good. better lubricity, better power and mileage. the only variable is the source, as there have been problems with certain company brands because they didn't refine it correctly. Bio Willie is a brand I have used in the past and it is fine. you will need to check in your area who is making it . some inbreeds in tennesee used regular vegetable oil and screwed up a bunch of customers vehicles. the bio oil is refined different from cooking oil and filtered more.check your sources..
