Who else has noticed that in the Living TV search for Top Chef they have missed a vital thing that you should have to be a good chef??
I noticed the other night that one is cratching his head, one is licking their fingers after tasting the food, and NONE wear hats or nets on their hair. Is this not against the standard hygiene rules of a kitchen serving food to the public??

It's a TV SHOW !
It's not CULLINARY SCHOOL.

It is meant to be entertainment, & the judges, camera crew & producers don't work for the health department.!

The contestants aren't applying for a job in an actual resturaunt.

ps-
I keep my doors locked & blinds drawn so the health inspectors NEVER see me lick a spoon or drink from the milk carton !......LOL......(I live alone so I'm just cooking for me)

Yes it is ridiculous. Gordon Ramsey is a bad example at not taking good hygiene precautions, take his show The F-Word right, well:

- He doesn't wear a hat or hairnet - hairs in the food is bad enough

- He always wears his watch and wedding ring which can harbour dirt etc

- you rarely see him watch his hands

but worst of all - he walks from the kitchen to the dinner room and either kisses or shakes hands with the guest which is cross contamination.

Very silly. I bet in a kitchen if you did that then you would be asked to leave.

I watch a lot of the cooking shows on Food Network and notice some things like Emeril Live every episode you catch him rubbing his nose with his hands and Paula Deen licks her fingers the funny thing is she always tell everybody to wash their hands but you don't see her doing it. My major pet peeve is when they have their dogs in the kitchen with them. Oh, anyway most are supposed to have hair nets and gloves. I noticed a lot of health inspections reported in our local newspaper for that.

That, that you saw is timid compared with what does go on. I once worked in a bar that served breakfast and lunches the chef was self employed he just was hired by the bar I saw him with a tray of cooked bacon he had dropped it on the floor and was picking it all up, putting it back on the tray I could not report it before he served it, and before coming to work he was out poaching his boots were all mud from the fields.

Sadly too true --the scratching poking and licking goes on in a lot of chef shows. If they wore hats and nets ,as they should, these prima donnas of the kitchen range would feel they lost some of their "celebrity" status----not so glamorous then.!

I have noticed that on a lot of other cooking programes aswell, i would of though hygiene would be most important, other than being able to cook.

I know that show is sick. I agree that should be more or as important as the taste.

i think one of the worst things is when you see someone sweating and then it drips into the food and you know that someone has then got to eat that

gross gross gross
