I don't think so. What happened at V Tech could have happened in any public place. While their own campus police force may have inadequately handled the situation, that doesn't mean that colleges all over the country should start putting in metal detectors, etc, because of one incident. If someone is hell bent on killing people, and they can't kill people in campus buildings, then they will go somewhere else.

What we should be focusing on is improving gun control laws. At this point, if you have a history of hospitalization for mental illness, you can get a gun as easily as anyone. I should know, I know someone who was hospitalized for clinical depression, then some time after getting out, he bought a gun and killed himself.

I'm not suggesting that people with mental illness should lose their constitutional rights for life. But if someone is recorded as being suicidal, there should be a length of time when, if not impossible, it is a lot harder to buy a gun (maybe getting a note from a psychiatrist?) This is a sticky area, getting into 2nd amendment rights as well as doctor-patient confidentiality. But the way things are right now isn't working.

Um, no.

Campuses are not meant to function like prisons or even like high schools.
