i have a job that I consider pretty hard... It took 4 years of University to get the job and I don't get paid very well. I am wondering what sort of jobs the public perceive as being difficult ones - in any regard...
Look forward to seeing if mine crops up :)

PS - This is not a question about money or morality, it is simply asking what jobs the public think are difficult. I understand being a mother is hard work - but what were you before that?

There's no 'hardest job' in the world. Just hard jobs varying in degree.
The parent's job. There's no retirement age for it. It's a lifetime job.
Then there're medical surgeons who have lives in their hands. Who have patients depending on their skills and expert opinions to save their lives. Patients with families waiting for the outcome of surgery.
The pilot/co-pilot who take people into the skies. Their skills and decisions decide if the passengers travel safely or otherwise.
The scientists who make discoveries/medicine that save lifes or improve quality of life.
And, many more.

I think that being a Social Worker/Caseworker is the hardest position that one can accept and take on. In regards to personal experience, the Social Worker is the person that many clients place their faith and absolute trust in. When there is nothing that you can do for a terminally ill client but make them comfortable to the highest capacity, for example, many may think that the Social Worker has not done their best, but they have. In addition, many other professionals do not have respect for Social Workers and dump all of their work on the Social Worker, who already has a huge caseload. Although many people have negative opinions/attitudes regarding Social Work practice, I am proud to be a professional in this field and I hope that others learn to appreciate the hard work that we do on a daily basis.

Sorry, I stand by saying being a wife and mother are the hardest jobs. Sometimes satisfying , sometimes not but worth it in the long run. I was footloose and fancy free before then. I long for the days of doing what I wanted to when I wanted to. I have raised two children and have one left in the nest. Once she is raised I am going to fly the coop. I do factory work which is physically demanding. I come home dirty, bruised, scratched up, etc. But we do what we have to do to raise our babies.

The hardest non paying job is being a mother, you are always on call 24/7, there are no vacations, or sick days. You can't call in, and you can't quit. It is very demanding and stressful at times. I know this is not the answer you were looking for, but it is by far the hardest job I have ever had.

i think the hardest job in the world is being a parent. i am not a parent but i can imagine how hard it must be to constantly worry about another life, a life that is part of who you are. i know doctors have to save multiple lives everyday. but there is no academic preperation that can teach you to be a parent being a parent is more mentally, and emotionally personal. not only do you seek your kids approval but you have to do what is right for your kids. you can never make a decision selfishly because your kids are your number one priority

Just to give you feedback from someone...
I believe a few of the more difficult jobs are those teaching JR HS in subjects the state SAP test, working in a minefield, those jobs where your work is underpaid, entails 12 or more functions, and you play dodgeball with customers and co-workers while looking "fabulous" all of the time.

being a minister and having to listen to all the people whine and complain to them about how hard life is..
my preacher has six kids and don't make enough so he has to work on the side riding in a ambulance as a fireman paramedic...he almost died in an accident..but his job pays little and he had a lot more Education in his training then just four years at the University...His wife and children usually come second to the people in the Parrish...sometimes its a thankless job..i don't think i could do this...but i am glad some people work for beliefs and not money only...
