By far, the most hilarious book that I have read in recent memory is A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore. Its about a single dad in San Francisco who gets tapped to be an agent of death. Add to that the harpys that are trying to steal the soul vessles that he has to collect, two demonic hell houds, a young daughter than can kill on command, and two employees: one who thinks he is a serial killer and one who is pissed that she didnt get chosen to be Death. Its full of quirky humor and richly written satire and sarcasm. A completly wonderful book that will have you laughing out loud.

A Confederacy of Dunces is great but my favorite is "A Walk in the Woods" by Bill Bryson. In the book, Bryson tries hiking the Appalachin Trail with a bitter, overweight friend of his who at the begginning throws half of his gear off a cliff because his pack weighs too much. I found a lot of people staring at me while I was reading it due to the fact that I could not help but to laught out loud.

Lucky Me by Carl Hiaasen. Mr. Hiaasen is such an hilarious writer that sometimes when Im reading his books I get so mad that I cant write like that = I end up throwing the book across the room!
Lucky Me is especially hilarious. It deals with two people who win the Fla State Lottery, a town filled with miraculous religious apparitions, three idots who want to start a militia and a war against the US, and so on.
I think the funniest part is when the lady whose religious apparition, the Jesus oil slick on the road, is put out of business when the highway gets repaved.
You will laugh so hard. Hiaasen is just ... wierd! Where he comes up with this stuff, I have NO idea but he is one strange dude. Read Lucky Me and I guarantee you that you wont stop until you have read all his books. (Read Tourist Season second - that one is great too - and Sick Puppy too.)
Christopher Moore is great too - I loved You Suck. Hiaasen did a blurb on the back cover. They are very much alike only I think Moore is a little stranger LOL.

Well, it has to be any of the discworld novels by Terry Pratchett. The man is an absolute genius and funny as hell. The two funniest ones are probably Small Gods (the great god Om who has been deminished to a turtle is hilarious) and Reaper Man which features Pratchett's most brilliant character ever- the side splitting Death. Do yourself a favour and read these books for a good laugh!!

Mine is Evelyn Waugh's "The Sword of Honour Trilogy" published in a paperback by Penguin Books and in a hardcover by Alfred A. Knopf in the Everyman's Library series. Those three novels are hilariously funny and amusing since Waugh meant to write to entertain his readers from his own WWII experiences. However, you might start with his "The Complete Short Stories" in which some were based on his student life and adventure while studying at Oxford. Recently, one of his best-loved novels, "Bridehead Revisited" has been filmed and shown worldwide. Waugh's been recognized as one of the few writers who wrote dark humourous literary works fantastically.

Try "Three Men in a Boat" by Jerome K. Jerome.
When I first read it, I split my sides laughing. It tells of the adventures & misadventures of 3 bored British men taking a boat trip up the river. A rollicking good yarn and a classic gem of storytelling. It is fast, witty and funny, and Jerome's whacky personality shines through. Although it was written a good century ago, it's still as hilarious as the day it was first published. Try it!

A Confederacy of Dunces, because the characters are hilarious and they are real, and the story is set in NewOrleans, the city of my dreams. Wasn't it wonderful?

The funniest books I ever read was "Dolly, My Life and Other Unfinished Business" by Dolly Parton. It is an autobiography told with her quirky sense of humor. Her autobiography sure wasn't dry or boring.
