The 7300GT is a very low-end video card. NOT really a gaming card at all. It might be able to run some games at 800 by 600, but any higher will not be playable (around 30fps). http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics.html
Memory is used according to how many colors, resolution, and textures used by a game. Most need 256mb or less running at 1024 by 768 or lower. Usually you have to get up to 1600 by 1200 or higher to be using 512mb of video ram. That card is NOT designed to be playable that high of a resolution in games. Just use the chart above to get an idea of video cards and their performace.

Tactical is right.

You could have considered the 7300GT (500mhz core clock) 256Mb ddr3. It will beat your vidcard w/ ddr2 and core clock of only 350mhz ALL THE TIME.

Take note that for gaming, HIGH CLOCK SPEED (core & mems) is the name of the game.

it depends how much memory you need.
For example if you play a high graphic game it will use 512.
if your just using it not with games it uses 128
once you play a game like FEAR it will use more.
Basically use as much as its need.
but it always runs at 128 untill you need more.
