The person updating something is doing it now since s/he is able to do so at present. S/he hopes s/he can fall back on this at a later time, when s/he may not be able to do this at that later time.

Where is that quote from, as in, how is it used?
I'm just assuming this is from some kind of diary passage... so it would mean the writer plans to look back on this moment as a point of reference or reflection.

Sounds like the person is saying I'll write this down to refer to when things are not so good and I need a reminder of good things.

thats from an old saying, i forgot exactly how it goes... however, "for rainy days to come" really means hardship, for example, save it for rainy days to come... means save it till you really need it... referring to money

It simply means that even if things are alright now, bad days WILL come .
