When I pull the starting cord, my lawn mower's engine sounds like it started, but it dies right away.

What can I do?

Couple possibilities, Old gas, is a leading cause. Clogged carburator, is another, and a dirty air filter never helps.

if its a briggs eng. you might have to replace the diaphragm in the carby. check the hole in the fuel cap to be sure its open. If its a Honda the main jet tube up the centre of the carby probably has one of those tiny little holes plugged. check the air filter too. Or clean out the bowl under the carby. when all this fails take it to someone who knows more than you

Most likely the carb needs to be remove, dissassembled and cleaned. You can get a repair kit for the carb at any small engine shop. Make sure that the gas tank is clean also.
