Some taxis do accept credit cards, but there is a surcharge of 10%
Change you money to £'s as soon as possible. The way the $ is falling you might get more back when you leave.

Don't give a cabbie $$
Give him £££££
or cheaper still, take the bus or train into London
But whatever you do, do not fall for the touts.
All cab drivers in London are fully licenced and have an official badge and a meter. If you are not sure, just make sure your cab is in an official taxi rank and is the right shape for a london cab!

If you ask a cabbie if you can pay in $, you will be told to get out and walk.
Change some cash before you arrive, or you'll have trouble. Large items can be paid for by travellers cheques or credit card, but small things like taxi fares are basically cash only, unless you want to fall out with people!

Monkeyface is right - you need to make sure you change your dollars into pounds. If you are staying in the UK for any length of time then this is the only way you will be able to pay for anything as dollars won't be accepted. And don't even think about offering Euros! Some places will accept them but the majority of us do not want Euros - Save our Pound!!

No. Change at the airport, or come prepared with 50-100 pounds...
(you wouldn't accept payment by another currency in the U.S. now, would you?!)

Pounds only.
When we come to US, your cab drivers will not take pounds so why would ours accept dollars?

The dollar isn't worth much. You can change your money before you go or at the airport.
