They don't always. Some old houses are very warm and inviting. Depending on your belief system, this may or may not make sense to you. In my opinion, everything is energy. People and events leave an "energy imprint" over time. It is possible that negative events in an old house could leave a negative feeling behind. A house that has been filled with joyful events will feel warm and inviting. That being said, it also depends on what kind of old houses you are talking about. An old house that has been abandoned and left to fall apart is likely to feel sad and empty. That same house, if lovingly restored can have the positive energy restored.

The unknown, of what may have happened in a house. Or the fact of knowing what has happened. Old houses have a history and could be hiding secrets within it's walls. Stories and lore could play a part on making one think a house is
"creepy".

The older the house, the more experiences took place there. the more people have lived there, giving the house a greater energy force to attract more spirits.

I don't know. I like old houses. They are usually sturdier than the newer houses and have more built-in storage. I would love to be able to afford an old house.

If you think about it, they can be old and dirty. The stairs could creek. The lights may be bad. Everything looks old and torn and for example, when you go through the haunted mansion at disney world and such, everything looks old and worn down.
