I have to do an essay on "Secondary to entertainment, the lasting enjoyment of a feature film comes from being made to think about the themes or viewpoints constructed in the text". I have to write it about The Green Mile, and I have no idea how to write the introduction. I know how to write an introduction, but I'm not sure how to start this one off.

Can someone please help??

The first paragraph includes the introduction and a thesis statement. The introduction should captivate the reader's attention and give an idea of the essay's focus. You may start your essay with an attention-getter such as a bit of fascinating information, captivating dialogue or an interesting fact.

Start with a few sentences that explain your topic in basic terms and lead into your thesis statement. Each sentence of your opening statement should become a bit more specific, until you reach the thesis statement.

The thesis statement tells the reader what the essay will be about and what points you will be making in your essay. Your thesis statement should state the subject of the essay, explain the point of view the essay will take or describe the ideas on your topic that you determined in your outline.

One idea, you can start out with a favorite quote from the movie. Also, you may want to write the essay first, and by the conclusion it may just "come to you" I sometimes like to use my last line of an essay as an intro sentence, just to reiterate my point. Good luck with the essay.

"The Geen Mile" is more than just another prison movie filled with prisoners, guards and squalid living conditions.
It is a movie which challenges the viewers to confront the question of what is really important in life. Love, friendship, hope, faith, justice; how would they keep believing in the intrinsic goodness of people in the face of insurmountable adversity? How would they react in a similar circumstance?

A major theme in this movie is dignity and compassion for felons on death row - dignity, even for those condemned to capital punishment.

Find a good quote about dignity or compassion (or make up your own). Apply it to the idea that even the legally condemned deserve compassion. Go from there.

Best wishes and good luck.
