I'm related to a REALLY BAD person. This person was a Nazi (SS) and fled to S. America. I want to do research but I am really concerned about people not understanding my family's past. Is there nothing I can do without being judged? And no, I'm not saying who even if you guess right :P

when i read ur question I thought it was Hitler. But say only Nazis.

People will understand u. they must if u still dont harbour Nazi-like feelings.
Ur asking this question tells that u are not comfortable with this identity. Take some rest and let everyone understand that u are not what ur ancestors were.

Best of luck...

Well, if that person fled, then it might mean that he didn't want to be a Nazi. Some Nazis usually grow up brainwashed, but by the time they start to serve Germany, then they may realize the horrors of Hitler's work, and no longer want to serve. By this time though, it is usually too late, and they pretty much serve in fear. The person that you are related to may be one of these people, and so he may not necessarily be a bad person. Some Nazis are also known to sometimes help prisoners of concentration camps by leaving food out in the open for them. So remember, even if someone is a Nazi, doesn't mean that he is a bad person. Not to mention that he fled, which usually means that he didn't want to experience Hitler's cruelty.

I'm related to someone who was a Sergeant with the Italian fascist army. Black shirt with Mussolini, march on Rome etc..., murdered at the end of WW2.
As said previously, everyone has ancestors who might be less than reputable. For instance, it's not because you are related to Hitler that you are Hitler. It is normal to wish to know who your ancestors are, no matter what they did. So I'd say go for it, and don't bother with what other people say.
But if other's opinions do bother you, explain to them the purpose of your research.

Well who ever is judging you has a few screws lose them selfs. You can not pick who your ancestors are and you should not have to pay for what they did. Every person who has done something bad has relatives some where. Hitler still has living relatives, so does Lee Harvey Oswald who killed President Kennedy. Everyone probably has one relative at some point in time that has committed some sort of heinous crime.

Being closely related doesn't make you a bad person.
Example:
Albert Goering, the good brother ... Albert Goering proved that humanism knows no borders, no race, no family ties.
Younger brother of brother Hermann Göring.
The parallel with Oscar Schindler is inevitable. The story of Albert Goering, however, is almost unknown.

who needs to know? Besides, did you know that most German males were forced (much like drafted) to join SS and yes, Junior SS for kids 16+. The other choices were running away or death. My best friend's dad was forced into the Junior SS during WWII. He's one of the nicest men I now and a college professor.

Just because you are related does not mean your family is bad.If people believe that, they are narrow-minded twits.I believe it is to your credit that you desire to seek out the truth and once you find it then you can truly rid yourself of these ghosts.

Make it clear to everyone that you don't condone and are ashamed of that person's conduct. if they judge you for the sins of another, there is no reasoning with them anyway.
