The noticable difference is the Operating system itself. The first thing I noticed was the system provides stronger login in security, with faster start up time. One of the complaints about XP has been the boot time. The design changed so that it kind of reminds me of a cross between Linux and Mac. It seems some of the bulk has been trimmed down for smoother operation. The Design I like better than Windows XP and have not fully decided on the Marketing that has been added to the system. Microsoft of course is famous for trying to make as much as they can breaking each program down into packages. The side bar which sits on the right side of the screen is a handy and reminds me of an old toshiba tool I use to have. the sidebar uses gadgets which you can add. The calander helps, unlike XP there is a good calander that you can actually place on the sidebar. There is a smoothness about the system that and several different versions of the program that you can buy depending on your needs. Microsoft did listen to customers when it came to the design. I am still working with it but find that the system is working pretty well at the moment. Right now I am using Home Basic and plan to add Premium to the Laptop. So far not any real problems. The website www.pcworld.com has articles about the differences. And the MS web site has a good run down. I have been a fan of both Linux and Microsoft for some time and enjoy both operating systems. As for right now I believe Vista is a well thought out OS unlike some of MS releases.

WELL TO MY KNOWLEDGE XP IS STILL BETTER THAN VISTA BECAUSE I JUST BOUGHT A COMPUTER AND TOLD THEM TO GIVE ME THE WIN VISTAS REGULAR HOME EDITION AND WHEN I GOT TO RUN THE SYSTEM IT WAS SLOW IT DID NOT LET ME DO LOTS OF THINGS BUT THE GOOD THING ABOUT VISTAS IS THE SUCURITY OPTIONS LIKE WITH USER ACCOUNTS NOW IF YOU CREATE A LIMITED ACCOUNT YOU CAN CHOOSE WHAT PROGRAMS THE USER CAN USE AND WHAT THEY CAN DO THING BY THING SO VISTAS IS STILL BASICLY XP BUT A LITTLE MODIFIED LIKE IN VISTAS THE WHOLE START MENU IS DIFFRENT AND ITS ALL BLACK AND TO OPEN A PROGRAM YOU HAVE TO OPEN THEM LIKE IF YOU WERE OPENING A FOLDER

Vista is:
- Much better looking
- More resource intensive
- More secure
- More usable
- Improved in a number of subtle ways
- Not yet supported by a broad range of applications
- More easily searchable

Walk into any Best Buy or Office Depot and try it out for yourself. Those who like it seem to really like it (me), those that don't like it really don't like it.
