I never was a good artist. Does that mean I never can be? And if it is possible that I can still learn, how can I?

I think anyone can draw...it is a learned skill...some just pick it up quicker than others. If you can sign your name you have skills to draw. Take classes...get books on instruction...and most of all...draw, draw, draw, and when you think you are done...draw some more.

I'm not gonna even ask you your age. Just draw, starting... now..!

Well, if you're not off to drawing yet, to answer your header question-- Yes, I do believe some are born with a better ability to draw than others. Just like some are born with "perfect pitch."
But that doesn't mean you just give up and say, "hey, I'm a lousy artist-- lets count how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie pop!!" --NO!! If you learn to draw now, then you can teach your possible kids in the future your skill... think about the children!!

Yes I believe someone can be born with the ability to draw. People are born with different skills and talents. I also believe if they don't ever practice they will never get any better.

I don't think that becuase you were never a good artist you never can be. I think you can learn just like anyone else.

Take an art class. View drawing, painting tutorials. Practice, Practice, and oh one more thing PRACTICE!!

I think it's both. Some people are born with certain abilities, like the 5 year old who can play a concerto on the piano without ever have taken lessons, or the kids who find it really easy to learn a bunch of foreign languages. But people can also learn to play the piano and learn foreign languages. I've known people who've just been able to draw without any training, people who've taught themselves, and of course, people who've studied. If you want to learn to draw, I believe you can. Take some classes. There are also lots of great books. ("Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain.") And, like anything, keep working at it.

Yes! You can definately learn. I always loved creative projects, but I used to really bomb out on drawing. But after 30 years of college art classes, I know now that I can draw well, and so can you.
There are lots of drawings of mine I tore up in frustration, but no longer. I have even tried a bit of figure drawing, but that still needs a lot of work!!!
To go back to your question, some people do inherit the ability to draw, but most of us really do have to work at it.

Yes, one may be born with artistic ability.
However, the better you apply yourself to a task, the better the results. Go to your local library to check books on instructions for drawing/arts/painting and choose whatever inspires you most.
Try to sketch something which appeals to you. Then save the paper item, keep drawing till your hand moves well with little effort. Add your own lines and shades to whatever you copy until the whole drawing is your own creation.
Painting is the same.

I was born with the ability to draw so yes to the first question. Your second one-anybody can learn to draw-it jsut takes years of practice to master the skill of getting proportion right and shading and such.

Good luck to you
