I don't know about a pound a week but I know for sure my baby gained 1 lb in the last couple of weeks of my pregnancy.

Yup. On average, a baby will gain between a 1/2-1 pound the last 4-5 weeks of your pregnancy, but it varies. This is because it's taking in lots of extra fluids and gaining good fats. All of this is part of normal child development, but it really depends on genes.

This website is really helpful. Read Week 35 and on, it'll give you more detail. Best wishes! =]

I thought it was 1/2 a pound. That's what my son gained.......exactly 1/2 a pound per week for the last 4-5 weeks.

Not necessarily, but they do gain a lot of weight in the last few weeks.
My daughter who was born 3 weeks early was 6 1/2 lbs, and my son who was born 2 weeks overdue was nearly 9 lbs, but my two babies (both girls), who were term were both 7lb something.
So it varies with the individual baby I think.
