A terrorist has placed a bomb next to a park fountain in a busy big- city square bustling with thousands of people and the only way to diffuse it is to figure out this trivia question.
The terrorist has left you two water bottles, one 5 gallons, the other 3 gallons. To diffuse the bomb, you must figure out how to get exactly 4 gallons of water into one of the bottles and place it on the scale that is attached to the bomb. Be careful not to spill any, and you may only use what you have been given because the terrorist is watching your every move. An ounce too much ot too little will detonate the bomb immediately. No cheating.

Start with 2 empty bottles.
Fill the 3, and pour it into the 5.
Fill the 3 again, and pour it into the 5, keeping what won't fit.
Empty the 5.
Pour the remaining 1 gallon in the 3 into the 5.
Fill the 3, and pour that into the 5, which now has 4.
And it's "DEfuse". To diffuse is to spread around, like you'd be if the bomb went off.

pour one gallon from the 5 gallon bottle into the 3 gallon one an place it on the scale.as to how you will do that figure it out.

fill in the three then pour it into the five, then fill in the three again, and fill in the five. the remaining water in the three must be 1. empty the five and pour the 1 in. fill the three and pour it in with the 1 to get four
