The pitcher had the name Sele on his back so I'm guessing it was Aaron Sele. The batter charged the mound and when the batter gets steps away from home plate, Sele sidesteps him and the batter is tackled by a fielder. Who is the batter and the fielder who tackles him? The fielder is a very big man.

Heres a link to the video clip....it's at the 1:36 mark in the clip. It's just youtube so the link is safe.

It should be when the batter gets steps away from the pitchers mound....not home plate.

The batter was George Bell, and the fielder who tackled him is Mo Vaughn, who was in fact a really big dude. This page's link doesn't work any longer, but it's in reference to the brawl you're talking about:

George Bell was the hitter from the White Sox, the "big man" is 6'1", 275 lb. Mo Vaughn. Vaughn had a productive power career, having two 40+ HR seasons and hitting 328 homers in his career.

I remember that game. Around Boston we were joking that Bill Parcells should get Vaughn to play linebacker for the Pats since Vaughn could actually tackle somebody.

Mo Vaughn was a really good player for the Sox, but his career got derailed when he left for the angels and got injured in his first regular season game for them.
