I am 22 years old in a long-term, sexually active relationship. I am on the birth control pill and have been for the past year, but we do not use any other forms of contraception. About three weeks ago I experienced some mild breast tenderness, which I simply chalked up to PMS. My period started as usual a week later, however it was much lighter and shorter than usual, even for a birth control period. I resumed taking my pill that Sunday, but roughly one week later I began bleeding again, despite having been regularly taking my pill. Only this time it was very heavy, very dark, clotted and accompanied by heavy cramping. It has slowly been tapering off for the past two days, but I have never had such heavy bleeding in my life. Could I have been one of the 1% of birth control users who got pregnant, and am now experiencing a miscariage? Thank you for all answers.

it definitly sounds like you did miscarry.. My sister and also a couple of my friends have all concieved while on their Birth control pill... So it isnt uncommon.. Obviously you arent wanting to concieve otherwise u wouldnt be on birthcontrol, however I would definitly use other protection against pregnancy as well.. Nothing is guaranteed, only abstinence.. If you are experiencing anymore periods like this I would make an appt. with your OBGYN to find out the root cause of the problem, it could just be that your periods are still trying to regulate seeing as how u havent been on it but a year.. Hope this helped! Good luck sweetie!!

I miscarried at 14weeks. I acquired pregnant a yr later and I'm now the proud mama of two lovely toddlers. MANY females have miscarriages. It's honestly believed that just about all females of childbearing age could have a miscarriage at a few factor, however it can be so early they do not even understand they have been ever pregnant. A unmarried miscarriage is not any rationale to suspect issues with long term pregnancies. I understand you are going to be paranoid besides (I surely was once) however your probabilities or a positive being pregnant are simply as well as any individual's.

I don't know. Go to the store and get a pregnancy test then no matter what the results make an appointment with your gyn on Monday. You may just need to change your pill prescription...of course it is also possible to get pregnant on the pill. I think it's only about 98-99.9% effective. The only thing thats 100% is abstinance or surgery.

Sounds like you may have miscarried. That early there is nothing to worry about. Take your pill at the same time every day. You should use condoms temporarily.
