Nothing else will ever come close to the sheer fun and excitement of Star Wars: A New Hope (episode IV). It is a Saturday matinee galore! A teenage boy film the way teenage boy films were meant to be made. In short, it is perfection. Rated #15 on AFI's 100 best movies. Ebert thinks it's the best of the Star Wars films.
Empire is extremely good too, so good that I wouldn't chage a thing about it. Yoda's explanation of the Force is so mystical and beautiful that it almost brings tears to my eyes (sorry, pretty pathetic I know). And Han fully reaches his iconic Movie Legend status in this film, even more so than in the first. But "A New Hope" has an originality, a heroism, and sense of wonder that exceeds "Empire" on every level except for romantic love. I mean, who can forget when Alec Guinness first reveals his face as Obi-wan? Or when Luke first begins to feel the stirrings of the Force? Or the dual sunset??? Or, of course, the big payoff at the end that defies credulity but still thrills you every time you see it?
That's the problem with the newer films, the so-called prequels. They're interesting stories, but they don't thrill you. They don't leave you with a silly grin on your face for the next two hours. Compare Qui-gon's (spelling?) explanation of the Force with Yoda's. Midichlorians??? We don't want to know that! Qui-gon's explanation is not in the same league with Yoda's. It's like T-ball compared to the Major League's World Series.
I better stop, I don't want to offend all the George Lucas fans, and I'm not ragging on him. I guess it isn't fair to expect somebody to surpass or even approach their masterpiece. Kind of like asking Leonardo to top the Mona Lisa or Michelangelo to top the Sistine Chapel.

Episode IV is my favorite, because it started the whole manic Star Wars frenzy! I like all the movies, but that one has always been my favorite. It has all the elements of a great film: good vs. evil, a beautiful princess, a handsome hero, and the good guys win in the end. I've loved Star Wars since I was a small child. And I even married a fellow Star Wars fan!

I loved Return of the Jedi from a very early age. (Especially since it was the one I remember seeing in theaters.) And it wasn't just for the cool lightsaber fights or the conflict between light and dark, but it was also the inner turmoil in Luke that got me. (Yes, when I was 4, I liked the thought of an inner struggle in a character, sue me.)
But I hate to admit this, but my favorite became Revenge of the Sith after I saw that. (More inner turmoil for one thing.) I loved the hero's fall into darkness, the madness and anger that started coming out of Anakin. And despite hating Hayden during Ep 2, I'll be the first to admit that I loved the amount of emotion he actually mustered when he was burnt and bleeding on the ground, yelling "I hate you!" at Obi-Wan. And one of the other things about Revenge that got me was just how *human* Darth Vader seemed after all of that. It made me see the other movies in a whole new and scary light. It made me wonder just who else could be seen in a better light with the right back story...

Ha!!! definite! and would the fourth be with you to boot sturdy agent... definite, I undergo in recommendations as a baby seeing the first commercial ad for the unique movie star Wars, the position Luke Skywalker is saving Princess Leia and attempting to flee Imperial typhoon squaddies via crusing (or swinging) on a rope in the course of a few cavernous expanse on the shortcoming of life movie star. I stated that on television and undergo in recommendations operating to mom and yelling,"we've gotta bypass see this action picture!!!!!!!!!" it truly is yet another X-record for you: Why have not we invented area ships, like those in movie star wars? it form of sounds like we are way in the back of the circumstances. we ought to continuously be colonizing area and exploring our galaxy via now and such issues as that, you recognize? Are the extraterrestrial beings conserving us decrease back?

I'd really have to go with Empire. I loved the first one, but Empire had more of that Jedi stuff going on. Loved the droids and Yoda. Luke gets the crap kicked out of him....on Hoth AND Bespin.....Dagobah was like a vacation compared to that.....
Return of the Jedi was great, too, with the gold bikini and those cute Ewoks.
