There is safety in numbers....you are not EVER safe if you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs....many girls get date-raped while they are drunk at college parties.
Make good friends, and when you go to parties, go with your trusted friends, and make a pact with them not to leave without each other, NO MATTER WHAT!
It's really hard for a guy to take advantage of you when one or two (or three) of your friends are getting in his face.
Always have a designated driver, even if you are walking. There needs to be at least ONE voice of reason!
My friends and I had different morals, and different standards, but we ALL agreed to hold each other accountable to our own standards, even when we were trashed!! Translation:
I didn't sleep around, so if I was trashed, and announced that I was leaving a party with a guy, my friends interfered, knowing that I would not be able to live with myself the next day...AND that I was an easy drunk!
Don't take unnecessary chances! Don't jog alone, especially in the dark! You can have alone time in your dorm, in the library, etc...don't take unnecessary chances!! (I can't emphasize that enough!).
Good luck, use common sense, and stay safe!

Take tae kwon do. It's one of the best martial arts out there, and you learn a lot of self-defense techniques. Carry mace or a pocket knife with you at all times, and always have a cell phone. Try to avoid going anywhere alone, especially at night. Always let your roommate or friends know where you're going and tell them you'll call them after being out for a certain amount of time. If you don't call them by then, then they'll know that something's up. The best thing is to always be alert when you're by yourself, and don't depend on others to come to your rescue. If anything, at least take a self-defense or martial arts class.

USE common sense. CARRY pepper spray OR a stun gun. USE the buddy system if you can. Don't walk on campus after dark unless with a group. DONT lead men on. Don't bully any one. REPORT any one strange or a stalker.------------ BE careful whom you trust.
