We used two wireless adapters, both had the same problem. We even got a new router. It says signal strength is excellent, but then it says there is limited to no connectivity, and the internet doesn't work. What's wrong? (Computer is home PC, Sony - Vaio PCV-2210)

I'm really grateful for the answers given so far, but it's really hard for me to understand... is there any way to take the jargon and abbreviations and stuff down a notch? That would be awesome, thanks!

You may have to configure the router first properly.

You need to connect to the router the laptop or PC that you used to activate the router. Use a LAN cable. One end of the cable must plug to any of the LAN ports (usually 4 of them) in the router. The other end plugs to the LAN port of the laptop. It looks like a slot for a phone line, only bigger.

First go to control panel then network connections, click properties button. Make sure that the Internet Protocol box is checked. Go to the next tab w/c is "Wireless Networks". Make sure that the box "Use Windows to Configure my wireless network settings is UNCHECKED.

Now open your router's software so that you could configure your wireless settings. Sometimes you could readily access your router's software on the icons tray at lower right corner. Try first the simplest configuration w/c is "Open" and not using any encryption. Use encryption later.

Your laptops should now be able to easily connect to such simple setup but do not forget to reconfigure later and use encryption to protect your setup from unwanted intruders. Just make sure your laptops follow the same configuration.

A wireless modem router would be a wireless router/modem combo and a wireless router would just be a router by itself. If you had high-speed cable internet you would need a modem connected to a wireless router to get online.

1 you must have a high speed connection to a cable modem or satlite dish.
2 you mus install the software first before you ever install the hardware, if you installed the hardware first remove it then remove the software. then go and nstall the software first on both computers next hook up the cable to server computer then hook up the second wireless computer and turn it on. it should see everythig automatically. if not run troubleshooter for lan connections in help and support.

are you able to ping your router?
if so, it means your network is set up right but the internet connection isnt being used, see router manual about MAC cloning if you havnt already.
