when your first having sex that involves some penetration it could hurt the first time around.
However sometimes people come out with hickeys and scratches on their backs. This kinda things go unnoticed when people are enjoying themselves....
I can only sex as something dangerous when sex gets a little too aggressive.

Generally it hurts the female a little bit especially on the first time becuase she bleeds and her hymen breaks. Lubricant and proper positions can prevent this.

It can hurt the women the first time if her vagina is too tight and the man's penis is too wide and it breaks the hymen
It can also hurt the man if he has phimosis.
Also It can be painful for either partner if they have an STD
