The only force in the world that recruits from any nationality is the french foreign legion. So I guess they'd be the best to answer this. And it's well known in the legion that the best Soldiers are either the English (not british but English) or the germans. Sorry to upset all you americans but very few have the balls for the legion and when they do they make average soldiers. There has recently been a wave of good strong eastern europeans that are making good soldiers. but for centuries it's been the English and the Germans.

Well, I'm thinking the most well trained and formidable when you say fighters. I watched some show on the Military channel the other night where they claimed the British version of the Navy Seals (I'm sorry I'm an ejit and don't know what they are called) were the baddest of the bad. Don't know if that's really true, but that was their conclusion. Israel topped out pretty high too in the well trained and heroic category. They put our military specialty groups up there too, but I definitely remember the British coming out on top.

Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, Ghandi, etc. these men fought for what they believed in, and the funny thing is that they all did it non violently. Any of them had a far greater impact on th world then Feor or any other MMA fighter and endured far more and kept going.

Obviously I have some bias in the direction of my own nation, being the loyal and patriotic type, and towards my Marine boyfriend. Britain has some fantastic fighting forces. Their snipers are renowed...they coined the term! We have to acknowledge that we obviously learned much from them historically, as our country is much younger.
That being said, I believe our elite forces can't be beat. Hopefully we'll never have to pit the two against one another and can continue to fight in a united front.

The Mongolians - Historically during the Golden Horde and Ghenghis Kahn era - they were the only people feared by the Vikings. The last major battles I'm aware of were with the Russians in WW2 - where they earned a reputation for discipline, ferocity, and incredible toughness. They probably turned the tide at Stalingrad. The Chinese and the Russians still fear them to this day even though their army is tiny.

Well I guess if one country is so technologically superior it is difficult to find out in modern times. Spartans in the past. But nowdays if we say US then did not the VietCong and "insurgents" run circles round them. As for Israel, after the fiasco of last summer nobody really thinks they are even in this league..

When it comes to special operations forces the U.S and Britain follows in a close second..
But if were talking conventional troops being American I'd love to say ours, but quite frankly the Israelis in my opinion are the best trained and well versed especially when it comes to urban conflict.
